Kids' Congress 09

Kids’Congress™ was a two day learning conference for kids, and run by kids. The students used ICT gear to produce cool projects and present their skills to their friends and family. The Kids’ Congress™ Organising Committee took a big leap with thirty kids from Waimairi and Windsor Schools joining forces with CORE Education Ltd to organise one of the biggest events kids have ever seen.
This year, there were 300 places for students from year 5-8 all over the South Island. The theme, ‘Adrenalin Pump’, hopefully encouraged the students to get active, physically and mentally. The event was held at QEII Stadium in Christchurch on the 28th and 29th of May 2009.
The children were all given jobs to do in order to prepare for Kids’Congress™. The $30,000 budget was spent on name badges, drink bottles, food for the kids and supervisors, t- shirts for the committee, teacher release, ICT gear, postage, venue hire, stationary, and an evening extravaganza after the big event.
“It’s really nice to get the opportunity to go to another school and work together,” says Lucy Robert, 10, a year 6 girl from Waimairi School on the organising committee.
“Its the best thing I’ve ever done’’ says George Young, a year 6 boy from Waimairi School on the organising committee.
