21st Century Online Literacy Course Launched at iCTLT 2010

New Zealand’s CORE Education and South Pacific Press have chosen the iCTLT Conference to launch an innovative online literacy course for teachers of English. The course offers cutting-edge online learning designed by CORE Education, coupled with innovative literacy practice designed by South Pacific Press.

The course will feature “Digital Shared Reading”, a 21st century version of the old shared reading practices (known in Singapore as SBE or Shared Book Experience). Teachers will learn how to “power up” their literacy instruction using digital texts on interactive whiteboards, and audio texts to support their students’ fluency in English.

Called Literacy to You (www.literacy2u.com) the new course will begin in the middle of 2010. There will be one module for teachers from Singapore that will align 21st century literacy teaching and learning with the Singaporean English syllabus. Otherwise, the course will offer global best practices, drawing on research and practice primarily from the USA and New Zealand.
